Copywriting FAQ

What is copywriting?

Copywriting is the art and science of written words designed to help a business achieve a goal. Copywriting is a part of advertising and has nothing to do with the © symbol that represents the copyright status of a piece of intellectual property.

What is SEO copywriting?

SEO copywriting takes care of the on-page SEO factors of a website.

Copywriting vs content writing - what’s the difference?

Occasionally, people lose their minds over the difference between copywriting and content writing. The easiest way to understand the difference between content writing and copywriting is to define them by the goals they aim to achieve. These goals ultimately affect how the material is written and the skills needed by the writer. For example, a blogger might be fantastic at writing long articles that position a brand as the expert in their field but may have no idea how to write a high converting landing page in under 200 words. Sometimes, a writer only writes long-form material like blog posts (bloggers), in which case you would describe yourself as a content writer. Most copywriters use the words copy and content interchangeably. You can imagine that you wouldn’t be much of a copywriter if you couldn’t write a blog post.

How much do you charge for copywriting?

Ahh, the golden question. When we need something, naturally we want to know how much it’s going to cost first, so we know if it’s a realistic option. The thing is, most copywriters don’t have set prices because the scope of work varies significantly between projects, even ones that appear similar. But, I always give an exact quote for a job before we get started so that I know exactly what you need and you know exactly what to budget for. While I can’t tell you the exact cost of your project until I know the details, I can tell you that my rate is $80 per hour. If you’d like an exact quote for your job, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Say I hire Digital Emily - how does it all work?

Glad you asked! I have a whole page dedicated to this question, so scoot on over here to find out more.

Do you offer more than SEO copywriting?

Yes and no. In my travels, I’ve made friends with some frighteningly talented designers, web developers, social media experts, coaches and nerdy (but brilliant) marketing strategists. So, if you need copywriting and any of the services mentioned above, don’t go doing something silly like diving into Fiverr looking for help. I can rope real, reliable professionals into your project to make sensational things happen. Get in touch if you'd like to know more.

How do I know you’re not a crazy, utterly unqualified copywriter?

Well, you can check out some of my reviews, and I can give you a long list of the places I’ve studied (Academy of Information Technology, TAFE, Australian Writers Centre to name a few). You can also check out my portfolio to see that I’ve done real work, and you can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well. Or, if you’re feeling brave, you can contact me directly and see if you like my vibe. I’m always happy to chat!

What are your areas of specialisation?

I am an SEO copywriter; I still do non-SEO copywriting projects, but this is the special type of copywriting I offer than many writers don’t. I also know an embarrassing amount of stuff about digital marketing, so if you need blog content about this, I can write that all day. If you’d like to read a bit more about my services, head on over to my services page.
